Code of Conduct + Care Guildelines

Our hope at BIPOC Design History is to foster a safe and positive space for everyone. It’s a space that welcomes curiosity, encourages us to ask difficult questions while having meaningful dialogs.

We want to support everyone to be present in this space, to think about and question things, and to discuss and unpack design histories together. We understand that these materials can be heavy to digest, so please be patient and take care of yourself.

We will not tolerate any form of hate speech relating to racism, sexism, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, islamophobic, antisemitic, or any other form of discriminatory language. If the safety of this space is compromised in any way, it will result in a removal from our spaces.

Notes about the safeness and vulnerability of BIPOC Design History’s space:

– Be vulnerable, make mistakes, ask hard questions
– We will not tolerate any form of hate speech
– We welcome curiosity, and hold space for difficult dialogue
– This is space where we encourage the flattening of hierarchies associated with:

    – Colonialism
    – Capitalism
    – White Supremacy
    – Patriarchy
    – Heteronormativity

Please consider your linguistic privilege and be mindful and sensitive towards people who communicate in other languages. While we mostly communicate in English at BIPOC Design HIstory, it’s not the first language for some members of our community. We will try our best to offer translations when necessary.

Be good to yourself and others.

Please ask us the BIPOC Design HIstory team if you have any questions!

With love and solidarity,
