Gaby Hernandez

Gaby Hernandez is a a multidisciplinary social designer, design researcher and Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Florida. She has extensive international experience working with disadvantaged communities and indigenous groups in México and Costa Rica. Her scholarly and creative activities include peer-reviewed articles and conference presentations in the United States and internationally, and professional and sponsored design and research. Her work has been presented at the AIGA Design Educator conferences (New Ventures 2014, Make 2018, and Decipher 2018), the AIGA National Design Conference—Education Symposia (Pasadena, California 2019), the Design Research Society Biannual conferences (Brighton, UK 2016, Limerick, Ireland 2018), and the International Association of Societies of Design Research Biannual conference (Cincinnati, OH 2017). Her professional and design research work also includes exhibitions and sponsored design projects in branding, editorial design, illustration, expressive typography, collaging, and information design. Her current work concentrates on the exploration and integration of topics of heritage and diversity in the design classroom, community engagement, design for good, and decolonial design theories and practices.
