
Sarah is a Penobscot tribal member of Penobscot and Passamaquoddy descent.
Sarah Sockbeson is an artist whose practice centers on Wabanaki basketry and the preservation of Indigenous traditions through contemporary expression. In 2004, they apprenticed with master weaver Jennifer Neptune through the Maine Arts Commission, learning to prepare ash and sweetgrass and master traditional weaving techniques. Sockbeson’s work blends these ancestral practices with bold colors and modern design, reflecting both cultural heritage and present-day influences.
